Please find proposed edits to the List Serve Guidelines attached. These add a section on usage of the Young Member sub-list and information on the potential punishments for misuse at the beginning and end of the guidelines. Very open to any edits/comments.

Hi, all - Below is the sample language I mentioned [modified to PIABA name].

Membership in the [Young Lawyers Section - NAME?] of PIABA is open to all PIABA members who are under 36 years of age and all lawyers within their first [#] years of licensed practice regardless of age [MAY NEED TO INSERT "so long as they meet the regular membership requirements" to capture they still have to meet 80/20, etc.]

PIABA Members fitting the definition of "Young Lawyer" above enjoy being automatically enrolled in the Young Lawyers List-serve and are entitled to enjoy reduced PIABA Membership Fees for up to 3 years as follows:
  • $325 for 1st year of Membership
  • $425 for 2nd year of Membership
  • $525 for 1st year of Membership

Reminder of our Bylaws meeting today below (2pm eastern). 

 

Here are the issues we will be discussing again:

 

a.  Adding an Educator category for membership for full time law professors.  Issues – same 80/20 restrictions?  Give the Board discretion for dues or state dues are 50% of regular?

 

b.  Making the law student membership open to all law students.  Issue – do we want a restriction if one may be clerking at a defense firm?

 

c.  Looking at the current young member definition – do we want to keep it open to members up to 35 years old?

 

d.  Modifying the PIABA logo restriction on websites to allow members to use if they pay extra for a higher level of membership? Or – open to all to market our organization?

 

e.  Addressing the discipline under the list serve guidelines for possible violations.  Make the prohibition on dissemination of list serve emails and info to outsiders more explicit and clearer?
